Baseball:  No Longer a Men's World?

This topic would be most related to the hiring of Alyssa Nakken by the San Francisco Giants. I would pose the overarching question of:  Do you think women should be heavily involved with the MLB? I'd follow up with how women might affect the industry if they're included. Two experts I could use could include: any college level coach, college level players, and possibly minor league or unaffiliated league coaches and players. Arguably, the best set-up would include one of each because each has a unique opinion by their current standing in the system. At this point, I already know most of the information about the specific situation with Alyssa including: why The Giants hired her, what The Giants want to use her for, and the public response to her hiring. However, I think it could be really interesting to get even more opinions from lower levels to see if the system is likely to include more women. It would also be interesting to see if regular people think women should be involved in the system, based on just common knowledge. This topic would be interesting for the common person because most people at least watch some baseball and this is possible a major change to the game. Others, who aren't baseball fans, might be intrigued to see what others think of the idea.

Too Many Changes?

Another topic I might do, would be related to the newer rule changes in baseball, particularly the pitchers now required to face at least three batters. My main question would be: How do you think the new pitching rules will affect how the game is played? I'd also discuss briefly if they think that new rules would be more effective or if they prefer the game to stay the same. Some experts could include: college level coaches, college level players, high school players, or minor league and unaffiliated coaches and players. The best combination would be a mix of levels because it would show better how the organization as a whole might feel about the rule changes. Currently, I know how the rule is going to go into affect, why the MLB wanted it added, how some players feel about it, and how other coaches feel about it. The most interesting thing to discover would be how the lower level, college or lower minors, feel about the rule change, because I've only heard from higher level coaches and players. It'll be interesting to see how they envision the rule affecting the newer players coming up in the system. This would be interesting for people to watch because it is going to greatly affect the coming seasons as strategy is now going to have to shift drastically. This rule change will shake up all the pitching and hitting approaches currently being used, so it'll intrigue anyone who is a baseball fan. People who aren't fans might be interested to see how people feel about changing things from the past.

Professional Players Making Bank?

My third topic, would focus on the salaries of professional athletes. My main question would be:  Do you think there is a problem with the salaries of professional athletes? I'd discuss it from different angles, from major league to college level athletes. Some experts could include: college coaches, college players, minor league coaches, minor league players, or college athletic directors. As with my other topics, a mix of levels would make for the most well-rounded opinion gathering. Already, I know average salaries of professional athletes, the huge inequality of pay from major to minor league, players and coaches opinions on the pay issue, and the public opinion on the issue. I think it'll be interesting to see what college level players and coaches think of the issue. It'll also be interesting to see how the players plan to combat the issue as they attempt to become professional athletes. This would be interesting for people to watch because it is a hot topic in the media, with record breaking contracts being signed in the last few months. It would also intrigue others who aren't already knowledgeable of the issue to hear how much these players are actually making.
